Thatnight the Texas Western Miners, led by coach Don Haskins with starplayers David Lattin and Bobby Joe Hill, defeated coach Adolph Rupps1 ranked all white Kentucky Wildcats, 72 65.Lattin set the tone early with a thunderous dunk, highlighting thestrength of the Miners, while Hills back to back steals showed theirquickness. Other key players for the miners included Harry Flourney,Willie Cager, Willie Worsley and Nevil Shed. The Kentucky Wildcatsfeatured Pat Riley, Louis Dampier and Larry Conley.
