1991 NCAA Championship Duke vs Kansas

Duke vs. Kansas. April 1 1991 Indianapolis Indiana. On April 1st 1991 the NCAA National Championship landed at the Hoosier Dome in Indianapolis. This title game was no April Fools Day joke as the Duke Blue Devils and the Kansas Jayhawks were all business in their quest for the national championship. Duke entered the championship game as the number 2 seed in the midwest region and Kansas came in as the south region’s number 3 seed. Coached by the great Mike Krzyzewski the Blue Devils won a nail biter in the semifinals against UNLV to advance to the championship game. On the other end of the court the Kansas Jayhawks led by Coach Roy Williams earned their trip to the title game with a victory over North Carolina in the semifinals. When the final buzzer sounded the Duke Blue Devils had won the 1991 national championship with a 72 to 65 victory giving Coach Mike Krzyzewski his first national championship. Duke was led by the tournament’s Most Outstanding Player in Christian Laettner as he racked up 125 total points.
